Hawaii LRN Team Joins Record-Breaking Earth Day Celebration
HONOLULU, April 22, 2023 - In a remarkable display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the Hawaii LRN team recently took a break from their project work to participate in the annual Laulima Earth Day celebration. This event brought together over 2,215 volunteers, including the team members, who collaborated with local organizations, businesses, entrepreneurs, and scientists to make a significant impact on the environment.
The Laulima Earth Day event, held on April 22nd, witnessed an unprecedented number of participants coming together to "mālama ʻāina" (care for the land) and promote environmental sustainability. The Hawaii LRN team joined forces with more than 40 organizations and worked tirelessly to remove a staggering 2,500 pounds of debris from the surroundings. They also planted 50 native plants, contributing to the preservation and restoration of Hawaii's unique ecosystem.

" Our only regret was that we couldn't do more (and that my sunscreen was not waterproof) ," said Dr. Bonny Lewis Van, the team leader of Hawaii LRN.
