Epidemiology Team

Erin Kough is an epidemiologist with experience in infectious disease surveillance and public health informatics at the state level. In her past roles, she has served as the epidemiology lead for Electronic Lab Report (ELR) onboarding, reportable disease surveillance, and implementation of message mapping guides (MMG). She has ushered several reportable disease surveillance efforts away from paper-based systems by leveraging available digital tools and implementing the training and documentation necessary to make these new systems sustainable.

Erin holds a BA in Natural Science with a moderatorship in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology with a certificate in Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response from the University of Pittsburgh. She has worked extensively in both NEDSS-based System (NBS) and MAVEN surveillance systems and is familiar with LOINC, SNOMED-CT and HL7 terminologies. Erin’s experience working within state surveillance systems has prepared her well to provide data analysis and epidemiology support at JMC.
