Karen Viars is an instructional designer with experience in creating effective, engaging learning experiences in a wide variety of contexts. She holds an MS in Instructional Design and Technology from Georgia State University, and an additional MS in Information Science from the University of Tennessee. Karen has advanced training in online learning course quality assurance and is certified in agile project management.

Her public health work includes creating globally-deployed in-person, hybrid, and online emergency response capacity development training, including a week-long training event for the African Pandemic Outbreak Response Alliance (APORA)in Accra, Ghana, for emergency response personnel from twenty-six African countries. Karen also developed and facilitated online instruction for the Colombian Ministry of Health on adult learning principles. She has experience in project management and instructional design for field epidemiology training. Her work in academia has included extensive experience in teaching faculty and students, and she has supported the online Executive MPH program curriculum at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health.
